Red Herring
By Michael Hollinger
Directed by Brendan Burke
Michael Hollinger's hilarious theatre noir farce mixes together three love stories, Cold War paranoia, and a nuclear espionage plot in a crazy comedy about marriage and other explosive devices. An audience pleasing, knee-slapping comedy, RED HERRING is an ode to what attracts, compels and confounds us.
America, 1952: and intrigue and love are in the Cold War air. Senator Joe McCarthy's daughter is dating a Soviet spy, a mysterious dead body wreaks havoc in Boston Harbor and thick-skinned detective Maggie Pelletier needs to solve the murder or lose out on a honeymoon in Havana. Add in the unlikely affair between a Russian fisherman and his odd-ball landlady and you have a fever-paced farce that has thrilled audiences throughout the country.
"Exceedingly funny. A genuinely human comedy about six people in search of love in a mixed up world. A thoroughly engaging piece of theatre."
...... - The Philadelphia Inquirer
"Hilarious! A valentine celebrating love and marriage. A fun, engaging, farcical romp with a cleverly complex plot and a loving heart."
...... - The Main Line Times
"It's a knock out - a surprising, clever comedy that keeps you laughing and even thinking all the way."
...... -Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
